Shares or stocks gifts ‘that keep on giving‘ L.C. Oakville This year why not look at a gift that keeps on coming? You could buy 100 shares of a bank stock or a mutual fund. Then have your broker register the shares in the names of the people on your list. One or two shares is all that is needed to start them off. Every two or three months they will get a letter or statement from a bank or fund company. A typical scenario might go something like this: Mom says "you got a letter from the bank, you know, its probaâ€" bly about the shares that Grandma bought you". My kids just love to receive mail. I believe there is no better way for young people to understand finances. The best part is when they look in the paper and see their stock or mutual fund growing over time. Now the lesson has become second nature! I like banks because they seem to send out the most amount of materiâ€" al. Over a year my kids may receive as many as 10 or 12 pieces of inforâ€" 350 mL Liquid or 50 Chewabie ablets Delivery Service! Paper Towels 2‘3 Viva If you want information on all sorts of companies then choose a mutual fund like MacKenzie. They have many different types of funds. All of which provide you with reguâ€" lar statements and information on the companies they are investing in. mation, from proxies to annual reports. (One share of Royal Bank stock is worth approximately $27 at this time) Lastly the time to process your order and get your shares or units registered is running short. Don‘t wait much beyond this week or you will be out shopping on Christmas eve. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year from the staff of Financial Concept Group. Christmas Raffle Many Canadians have faced very difficult economic times in 1993 and Oakville has not been immune to these conditions. In an effort to lend a hand to those less fortunate in the community, one longâ€"term Town of Oakville employee, Lottie Grant, proâ€" posed the idea of holding a Christmas Raffle to raise funds for the Salvation Army and Halton Women‘s Place. The exhibition of prizes is on dis: play in the Atrium at Town Hall! Everyone is invited to view the prizes Tickets are $2 each or three for $# and are available at the Informatior Kiosk (main floor Town Hall). The Salvation Army is responsible for the Christmas Bureau and together with the Food Bank, arranges for Christmas hampers, clothing and toys to be distributed to the less fortunate in Oakville. Recognizing an opportunity to bring joy into more lives through < Christmas Raffle, Town employeea formed a committee whic approached each town department for donations of handcrafted articles, ser-* vice type prizes or a donation of a group prize. Over 75 prizes have been donated, ranging from hand crafte items to wood carvings, gift certifi cates, and more. The raffle will be held at Tow, Hall on Dec. 16th during the Annug Carol Sing beginning at 11:30 a.m. Halton Women‘s Place is a hostel for battered and abused women and children, and unfortunately, it‘s busiâ€" est time is over Christmas. 4
