ILLE BEAVER Friday, Feb. It is unfortunate that the Spanish have given up promoting their wines. Here in Ontario very little is done to champion some of the betâ€" ter wines, especially the ones from the northern Rioja Region. The great Gran Reservas from Rioja, however, needs little publicity, for there are probably very few cellars Little done to champion Spanish wines Saturday, February 12 19 26 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. White Oaks Secondary School McCraney Avenue West s 00 35 hsu©"" _ Girls age 9â€"18, Boys 6â€"15 2 Player‘s Proof of Age Required League play starts April 25/94 and ends by June 2025 Dundas St. E., At Universal How To Get More Home Out Of Your Home. Founded only a little over 100 years ago, Bodegas Montecillo is located in the Alavesa District of the Rioja â€" the heart of Spain‘s most noble wineâ€"producing area. This is a region that is rather hot during summer, but also quite cold during MORE HOME FOR YOUR MONEY Secretary‘s Desk 1" thick material with a durable, black, melamine surface. It is quite rare that one can find three different wines from that area from one producer of exceptional value and quality. These three wines â€" two red and one white â€" should please even the most discriminating palate. What really captured my attenâ€" tion, however, is the element that all the three wines would go rather well with a meal. The white I sugâ€" gest as an aperitif before the meal; the red one with the food; and the EBERSPAECHER 36" wide Bookcase 12" deep for maximum storage Available in solid gray, light oak and medium oak Easyâ€"toâ€"Assemble red Gran Reserva as an afterâ€"dinner wine. I can‘t ever remember finding three wines from Spain which would fit my list so completely. Before dinner, I would drink the white Montecillo Vina Cumbrero â€" a light, fresh, and clean wine that has the pleasant fruity bouquet of the local viura grapes. Quite often, I find that Spanish whites are rather harsh on my palate and high in acidâ€" ity. Not so with this one which is rather smooth. Actually, when it comes to white table wines from Spain, this one could be easily one of the best I have ever tasted. Listed under CSPC 77800, it is also reaâ€" sonably priced at $7.95. Now to the meal and the second wine. There is much controversy as to what wine is suitable with what food, but much of this is unrealistic and should be a matter of personal taste. I like a red wine with fowl, | SALE PRICE | REGULAR PRICE Mon, Tue Thur, Fri Sat Sun $49.95 $64.95 $79.95 10.00 am â€" 6.00 pm 10.00 am â€" 9.00 pm 10.00 am >10.00 pm g.00 am â€" 6.00 pm 12.00 amâ€" 5.00 pm (905)238â€"1141 $69.95 $89.95 $109.95 and I drink white wine with a pork roast as long as the wine is not overpowering my food. Therefore, I would suggest that the red Montecillo Vina Cumbrero will go great with just about any meal, be it seasoned roasts, pasta, or even a roasted turkey. Perhaps, the only food it would not really compleâ€" ment, would be shellfish and fish. Here I would prefer another bottle of the white. Deep, rich, and rubyâ€" colored, this wine is matured in oak casks to produce to fullâ€"bodied, but still fragrant wine, that is listed under CSPC 144493 for $9.25. My third suggestion for this week is the rather outstanding red Monticillo Vina Monte Gran Reserva. It is also the wine with which I would settle down after a meal. In order to become a Gran Reserva in Rioja, the wines are selected from the best harvest years and must be aged for a minimum of two years in oak casks and at least three years in bottles before shipâ€" ping. 1988 was a good year and is the vintage for the Montecillo Vina Monte Gran Reserva â€" a truly outâ€" standing wine that should be conâ€" sumed at room temperature or even slightly warmer, and opened at least an hour before drinking. If possible, all great red wines should be warmed up slowly over a few days at room temperature to bring out their best. The Gran Reserva is also a general listing under CSPC 239277 and sells for $16.20. Perhaps, not very cheap, but excepâ€" tional value considering the quality of the wine. Reinventing your life Reinventing Your Life by Jeffrey E. Young, PhD and Janet S. Klosko, PhD published by Penguin Books 1993 We‘ve all known people like this. Maybe, we see the problem in ourselves as well; we keep repeatâ€" ing the same mistakes over and over in our lives. Perhaps, we get up enough courage to end one negative or destructive relationship, only to get into another relationship that‘s just as bad. Or maybe, we can‘t seem to keep a job, despite our effort to improve. Therapists Young and Klosko noticed that as they worked with their patients, they kept encounterâ€" ing people who fit this description. They turned out to be the most diffiâ€" cult of all to help. It was as though they were "stuck", repeating these unhappy patterns although they wanted change. Young and Klosko call these "Lifetraps", and they‘ve named 11 of them. Then, they began to develâ€" op some specific strategies to helpâ€" people find their way out of these "ruts" that were making them so unhappy. Some, of course, are more difficult to change than others, but the authors believe that anyone can make slow, steady progress towards a better life.
