Oakville 4, Whitby 2 OT (championship game): Oakville came to play which was good because Whitby also played hard and tough. Whitby opened the scoring but was soon answered with a goal from David Nugent, assisted by Sean Lavelle and Steven Donnelly. Whitby made it 2â€"1 before Oakville evened it up in the last minute of the first period on a goal by Donnelly, from Nico Gill and Adam Kalata. Tied up throughout the second period, Oakville took the lead early in the third period on a pass from Richard Meloche. Josh Smyth, who compiled seven goals and four assists, was named tournament MVP. In the qualifying round, Oakville defeated Waterloo 6â€"1, Niagara Falls 1â€"0 and Whitby 2â€"1. In the semiâ€"finals, Oakville battered Barrie 9â€"2 to advance to the final against Whitby. MINOR ATOM "AA" The Multiâ€"Line Auto/King Caledon Leasing Farms Oakville Rangers reached the semiâ€"finals of the Rochester tournament last weekend, losing in overtime to Waterloo. Waterloo 5, Oakville 4 OT (semiâ€"finals): Oakville fought back from a 4â€"2 deficit to score two goals in the last four minutes of the game to force overtime. Scoring for Oakville were Geoff Browne, David Maniccia, Scott Weagent and Trevor Burns. Assists were notched by Geoff Curtis (2), James Wallace, Stephen Baines and David Ksiaziewicz. In the round robin portion of the tournament, Oakville beat Markham 6â€"0, Woodstock 1â€"0 and lost 6â€"0 to Richmond Hill. Sharing the goaltending in all games and exhibiting outstanding skills were Nick Ball and Zachary Katsof. MINOR BANTAM "AA" In the Rochester international tournament held last weekend the First Choice Haircutters Rangers season came to a close with a tough 3â€"1 loss to Whitby in the championship game. Oakville dominated play but could only come up with one goal for their efforts. Whitby scored their third goal into an empty net. Jeff Elia notched the goal from Kevin Gibbons and Kent Wallace. Oakville had won its first three games 5â€"2 over Brampton, 5â€"1 over Rochester and 5â€"1 over Aurora. The team fisnished second to Orangeville in the Triâ€"County League regular season and were knocked out of the OMHA semiâ€"finals by Orangeville. Other highlights included: * reaching the semiâ€"final game of the North American Silver Stick finals tournament where they lost to Clearwater, the eventual winner; * postded a record of 35â€"21â€"6 with a winning record in league, playoffs and tournaments‘ * goalies Jamie Miller and Jeremy Riopelle collectâ€" ed six shutouts; * reached the semiâ€"finals of four of their five touraâ€" ments. BANTAM "AA" The Laidlaw/London Life Rangers, who were bounced out of the Ontario playdowns, got off to a great start in their league playâ€"offs, winning two games and ticing one. Oakville tied Ancaster 3â€"3 (goals to Chris Maguire, Jamie Donnelly and Jamie Innes; assists to Rob Shirley, Mike Kunnunen and Doug Baard) and defeated Milton 3â€"2 (hatâ€"trick to Chris Maguire; assissts to J.P. Mercieca, Quentin Budd and Sean Krumpek) and Ancaster, in an encore confrontation, 5â€"2 (goals to Chris Maguire 2, Mike Paralovos 2 and Doug Baard; assists to Mike Kinnunen 2, Chris Maguire, Jamie Donnelly, J.P.
