OPINION Don't miss the gaming expo at OPL this weekend Iroquois Ridge ranch will transform into a temporary arcade, writes the OPL Oakville Public Li brary will be hosting a special gaming expo in partnership with Sheri dan College this Saturday, March 24. The expo, which is free to attend, will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the li brary's Iroquois Ridge branch. The library will trans form into a temporary ar cade as 50 students from Sheridan's bachelor of game design and anima tion program set up and showcase games they've developed for their final year project. Community members will have the opportunity to engage with the stu dents, play their games, and learn more about game design, animation, process and production, as well as Sheridan's one- of-a-kind program. Many o f the fourth- year students used a com bination o f psychology, art and technology con cepts to develop games that address and solve business and social is sues, such as improving relationships between youth and police officers and measuring the out comes o f post-secondary education. Attendees will be able to participate in augment ed and mixed reality dem onstrations, as well as gain more insight into me chanics, level design, pro gramming, narrative, pro fessional development and project management. In addition, Oakville Public Library (OPL) staff will be running sessions on learning basic game design with Bloxels and iPads for interested cus tomers. OPL's Gaming Expo is open to all ages and is a great opportunity for indi viduals interested in gam ing or pursuing a career in gaming design and ani mation. - For more information, including other upcoming programs, visit www.opl- .ca.
