The results were nar­ rowed down to include these eight key special ed­ ucation recom m endations for Phase 2: • To develop a special education and com m uni­ cation plan; • To im prove com m unication and in for­ m ation sharing am ong staff m em bers; • To use the Grade 4 screening assess­ ment results to build other learning profiles in addi­ tion to giftedness; • To re- view and revise assess­ ment criteria for each ex­ ceptionality with a focus on special education clas­ ses and program s; • To sim ­ plify the identification pro­ cess for resource support placem ents; • To support prim ary students who demonstrate elements o f giftedness in their hom e schools and to consider re­ source support and self- contained placem ents as well as extracurricular op ­ portunities; • To continue providing learning oppor­ tunities for staff support­ ing prim ary students with learning disabilities and autism; • To review and im ­ prove the IEP development and im plem entation pro­ cess. The report is currently in draft, but Zonneveld says SEAC aims to have it im ple­ mented by September 2020. It is expected to be present­ ed to trustees in April.
