Karl was born in Germany, and became a citizen of Canada after arriving in the port of Halifax in 1952. Karl's passion for discovering the world led him to many de st in a tion s, w here he developed his skills in photography and la n gu age s. His love for horticulture and all things green lured him across Canada to Victoria's Butchart Gardens and eventually back to Ontario, where he settled in the town of Georgetown. Here he raised a family while contributing his expertise to the beautifu l gardens of the Dom inion Seed House. He is remembered for his clever sense of humor, kind nature, and uncanny ability to see those little but very important things in life. PACE, Dorothy Patricia It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Patricia Pace after a courageous and dignified battle with Lewy Body Dementia, on March 29, 201 8. Predeceased by her loving husband Gordon in 2016, Dorothy will be greatly missed by her son Kelly (Sonia), daughter Kim (Max), and her four grandchildren; Jonah, Sophie, Erik, and Willy. Dorothy also leaves behind her sisters Ann, May, Beth and Gemma as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her siblings Josie and Gus. Born on July 20, 1934 to parents Amelia (nee Bargent) and Arthur Percy, Jim was raised in Willowdale, Ontario along with his older twin brothers. Jim graduated from Queens University in 1958 with a BSc in Civil Engineering and shortly after married the love of his life, Lillian (nee Swerbrick) who he adored fiercely until his last breath. Jim is also survived by his loving children Kristine and Douglas (Jenna), his cherished granddaughters Brooke and Katelyn, brothers Gordon (Donna) and Robert (Barbara), numerous nieces and nephews and his grand-dog and fury friend, Maggie. Jim worked for the Ministry of Transportation (Department of Highways), transferring to Toronto, Sarnia, Chatham, Bancroft, Kingston, Kenora, North Bay and Burlington with family in tow prior to his retirement in 1991. While at Queens University he fell in love with the Eastern Ontario area and built "The Cottage", his labor of love, in Battersea which was always home- base no matter where the family happened to be. As an avid gardener, curler, carpenter, water skier, fisherm an, coach, go lfe r and marathon runner, Jim was always active and could usually be found outdoors, rain or shine. While his passing has left a hole in our hearts, his life was well-lived. He has left us with many cherished memories, laughter, and lots of love. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. WRIGHT, Dorothy Joan (nee Beardmore) Joan died peacefully on March 25, 2018, two days before her 100th birthday at the Sunrise of Oakville. She was the beloved wife of the late George Merritt Campbell Wright; dear mother of Peter (Joan-Marie) of Edmonton, David (Kathy) of Burlington and Christopher (Donna) of Baden. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Joan was predeceased by her brothers Martin Beardmore, A lfred Beardm ore and Gordon Beardmore. Other than the well being of her family, Joan's passions were the games of golf and curling. Her competitive nature always rose to the occasion resulting in many tournament wins. She was always available to give assistance to the less experienced players encouraging them to strive more to achieve their goal. Joan also worked tirelessly on various committees in the Ontario Ladies Golf Association as Tournament Chairman for the Hamilton District and as District Chairman for the Mississauga District. Joan was very active working at the Canadian Open each year. She also volunteered her time at St. Jude's Church, Oakville- Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and St. R ichard 's Church, Jekyll Island, Georgia. Joan was born on March 27, 1918 in Leeds, England. She was raised in a loving family in Acton, Ontario and Montreal, Que. She moved back to Toronto and married George in 1940 before he went overseas during the war. They resided in Oakville for the rest of their lives. The family would sincerely wish to thank all the staff at Sunrise of Oakville, and the palliative team members, for their caring support. The funeral will be held at St. Jude's Anglican Church, 160 William Street, Oakville on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. with a reception afterwards in the St. Jude's Victoria Hall.
