MAARTEN IS THE PLACE TO BE FOR MANY to do it - ON THE BEACH, IN A GAZEBO, or ON A HILLSIDE GARDEN - you can get manied on the same day you arrive! All the necessary paperwork has to be done ahead of time, of course, but whether you fly in directly, or this a stopping point on a CRUISE you take - it's there for you to have A MEMORABLE WEDDING SETTING. This small island is one of our favourites - it offers a cross section of Dutch and French cultures, has a variety of terrain, the people are friendly, and the main street of Phillipsburg - especially when a cruiseship is in town, is a SIGHT TO SEE! One can tour the whole island in a matter of hours. CRYSTAL CRUISES - THE FAVOURITE OF MANY has quite an array of DEPARTURES lined up for their clients to choose from this year - 68 DEPARTURES ranging from a trip of SEVEN DAYS right up to 99 DAYS! Their 99 DAY WORLD CRUISE out of Los Angeles to Lisbon, through the South Pacific, Australia, Asia, India, the Middle East, Africa and Europe, is one of their highlights. Along with other cruiselines, they too have some GREAT MILLENNIUM TRAVEL OPTIONS! MEDITERRANEAN CRUISES ARE STILL POPULAR with many, even though the Kosovo conflict - although distant from Europe's top vacation destinations - has definitely affected total travel abroad. Additional cruise itineraries had been added for the season in the "Med" ports, based on last year's tremendous interest. Several cruise lines altered their routes to stay some kilometers away from this area, at present Air, land, and cruise products abroad are all seeing less activity. CRUISES TO ALASKA are seeing the benefit, as many are switching their plans to make this junket and putting off their Mediterranean cruise to another time. ? ? ? You may have met in the din ing room, at the shows or in the bars or lounges. Did you notice that you probably belonged to one of two groups, the smokers or non-smokers. On cruise ships as in public places throughout the Western World, the movement to smoke- free areas has accelerated at a rapid pace over the past few years. Most major and minor cruise lines have designated their din ing rooms smoke-free. Of the majors, only Costa, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and Holland America still allow smoking in part of their dining rooms. Much slower is the move to designate cabins as smoke-free. Of the major cruise lines, only Norwegian Cruise has cabins designated smoke-free on all their ships (all port-side cabins are non-smoking rooms). In addition, Delta Queen Steamboat, Oceanic and Radisson Seven Seas have simi lar programs. However, one of Carnival's newest ships, the "Paradise," was built from the keel up in a smoke-free environment and has been designated as a totally smoke-free ship. Passengers and crew are not permitted to smoke anywhere on the ship. A few guests, who refused to follow these guidelines (which is part of your agreement when accepting passage on this ship), have been escorted off the ship and have had to make their own way home at their own expense. By the way, the "Paradise" has been fabulously successful in its first year of operation! A number of areas on most ships are usually designated non-smoking. These include the fitness centres, spas, theatres, gift shops, elevators, corridors, and libraries. Smokers' territories include all outdoor areas, the casino, and the bars and lounges (usually with smokers on the port-side, non-smokers starboard). Few ncredible beaches! Transparent turquoise seas! ALSO NEEDED: VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBERS people mingle with the other persuasion, a reflection of soci ety's views on the subject. Interestingly, three of the major cruise lines including two who still allow smoking in the ir dining rooms have designated their major show lounges as non-smoking areas. They are Costa, Holland America, and Princess. The performers are most grateful! The greatest fear on-board a cruise ship is fire! At compulso ry passengers' muster drills on the first day usually before leav ing port, all passengers are reminded of the strong safety at sea programs run by the ship. Passengers are cautioned against smoking in bed and requested not to throw lighted cigarettes overboard but to use the proper receptacles for dis carding butts; fire is the most dreaded hazard at sea! With approximately 75% of North Americans non-smokers, the movement to more non smoking areas will continue on cruise ships as in most other public areas of society. Non smoking rules are politely enforced on cruise ships for the comfort of non-smoking passen gers. As in many other areas of society, smoking-related costs are huge. Costs include: extra cleaning and deodorizing, replacement and repair of car pet, furniture bums, and the more frequent cleaning and ser vicing of air-conditioning filters. In the future, the movement to more non-smoking facilities will continue. If it's important to you, ask about it when you book your next cruise.
