Gage, founder and chairman of the Halton Bluebird Club, along with some volunteers erected the bird houses that has attracted the birds back into this area of the Halton region watershed. Habitat improvement programs like this have helped the bluebird population to increase throughout southern Ontario in recent years. For his efforts, Gage was named the individual winner of the Halton Regional Conservation Authority (HRCA) sponsored Ralph Sherwood Conservation Award. Two other categories: institutional and educational were also handed out by the HRCA in ceremonies last week. The award is named after Ralph Sherwood, a longstanding member of the HRCA whose service and dedication to conservation exended over 20 years.
