10 Oakville Beaver Weekend Sunday, April 11,1999 The Region of Halton now offers two new ser vices to homeowners to improve low water flow problems. Household water flow can usually be improved by either replacing or cleaning piping. Most Halton residents who complain about low water flow problems have old, corroded, and under sized water services. A water service is the pipe that runs from a street watermain to a basement, and connects to the plumbing at the water meter. Older homes typically have narrower piping than the current wider regional standard and expe rience low flow problems. If a homeowner replaces their water service and brings it up to current standard the Region will upgrade the public portion of the service free of charge. Current Regional policy specifies a 20mm (3/4") water service. Updating a water service to the Regional stan dard costs approximately $2000, depending on the distance from the property line to the house. The Region is also offering the 'Braided Wire Cleaning Program' to improve water flows. Water flow is improved through the insertion of a braided wire into the pipe to remove buildup restricting flow. The Braided Wire Cleaning Program costs $126. This program has been popular with the public since it costs much less than replacing water ser vices. Customers who have used the cleaning process report greatly improved water flows. Residents are encouraged to phone the Region of Halton's Environmental Services Division at 825-6030 to obtain information about either of these services. • ^ I-- I Balfour, Campbell & Associates F A M IL Y D E N T A L O F F IC E Accepting New Patients We offer: • G eneral ir C osm etic D entistry • G eneral A nesthetic • E ndodontics • Laughing Gas • G um Specialist on site • C h ild Specialist on site 181 Church Street, Oakville 842-4556 What does Apri mean To Millions with Parkinson's Disease • April is World Parkinson Awareness Month, • April 11* is World Parkinson Day which celebrates the birth of Dr. James Parkinson.
