In response to the U.S. presi- dent's decision to place tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, our government will impose dol- lar-for-dollar tariffs against im- ports of steel, aluminum and oth- er products from the U.S. We will challenge these illegal and coun- terproductive measures under NAFTA and at the WTO.NAFTA and at the WTO.N Businesses in our community have spoke to me to express their concerns about these tariffs. We know the tariffs are not helpful to businesses and costumers on ei- ther side of the border. It will dis- rupt linked supply chains and im- pact both Canadian and U.S.busi- nesses. My door remains open to local businesses to discuss concerns they may have, and I invite you to submit feedback directly to the government. The consultation pe- riod will be open until June 15. The U.S. is Canada's close ally and friend, and these tariffs are an affront to the long-standing secu- rity partnership between Canada and the U.S. Our government continues to believe that common sense will prevail. We will always protect Ca- nadian workers and Canadian in- terests and work to put an end to the U.S.'s illegal and counter-pro- ductive tariffs. Oakville MP John Oliver Conservatives condemn steel and aluminum product tariffs The recently-implemented U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and alu- minum products are unaccept- able and a serious blow to the workers who rely on these indus- tries for their livelihoods. Two months ago, Justin Tru- deau promised Canadian workers that he had resolved the tariff threat from the U.S. on imports of steel and aluminum from Canada. After the recent U.S. announce- ment, it is clear that his promise wasn't kept. Canada's Conservatives warned Trudeau that he was un- prepared for this development, but his recent budget did not in- clude any measures to support the steel and aluminum industry. This threat has been looming for a year already, bringing mas-for a year already, bringing mas-f sive instability and a turbulent in- vestment climate. This is yet another blow to our economy, which has lost billions in investment, and seen critical energy projects such as Northern Gateway and Energy East fail at the hands of the Trudeau govern- ment. Canada's Conservatives will al- ways put Canadian workers first.
