Di SCIASCIO, Iolanda I t i s wi th deep sadness that we announce the passing of Iolanda Di Sciascio, after a long, painful struggle with cancer, at the age of 83, on August 8, 2018. Iolanda was born in 1935 in Camporotondo di Fiastrone, a beautiful town in the Marche region of Italy. The youngest of four children, she attended college from the age of 13 to 17, to learn the art of embroidery, wh i ch she honed to per fec t ion , creating beautiful designs for wedding dresses, couture bedding and fashion. At 19 years of age, she met and married Luigi Di Sciascio and moved to the town of Casoli Chieti in Abruzzo. There, she gave birth to two daughters, Pina and Patrizia and lived in Casoli until 1968, at which point, the family immigrated to Oakville, Ontario, where she has resided ever since. Iolanda was a selfless, kind, compassionate and talented person, with a wonderful sense of humour. From her beautiful garden to the mouth-watering dishes she cooked and baked with tender loving care, everything she created was special and beautiful. She tended to her children, her house and her flowers with the utmost care. She always kept busy baking, cooking, gardening, making preserves and sewing. She sang in the church choir and volunteered at church bazaars and events, by giving of her time and talents. She was always ready to lend a hand to neighbours and friends in their times of need. She babysat her grandchildren for years and was always there for her family and friends when they needed a favour or a comforting word. Her passing has left a void in everyone's life. She was a shining light of peace, beauty and love. We cannot believe that she is truly gone and look for her in the garden and in her home with longing. Love has no limits and this love unrequited by her absence has become a grief so deep, that it will be difficult to erase. They say time heals all wounds, but the loss of a mom so close and so wonderful is difficult to even imagine. She will always be loved, remembered and cherished. Iolanda was predeceased in death by her husband Luigi Di Sciascio, her parents Ferdinando and Giuseppa Paoletti, as well as her siblings Enrica, Lina and Nazareno. She is survived by her daughters Patti Di Sciascio and Josie Di Sciascio-Andrews and her grandchildren Ryan and Matthew. Visitations were held on Sunday, August 12th at Oakview Funeral Home in Oakville. The funeral ceremony was held on Monday, August 13th at St. James Parish in Oakville, with interment at the Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery, next to her late husband. The family would like to thank the Sunnybrook Hospital, Odette Cancer Research Centre, Dr. Glen Surbey and the palliative care team at the Halton LHIN, the EMS team who took her to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and the wonderful doctors and nurses who took excellent care of her pain management in the last few days of her l i fe.
