She was presented with a Silver Life-Saving Award by St. John Ambulance Oak- ville-Milton and Halton Hills at the Old Palermo School House in Oakville. Damoff was having breakfast at an Oakville res- taurant the morning of July 9, 2017 when she noticed an elderly man in distress, stat- ed a media release. Directed by a 911 dispatch- er, she moved the man to the floor and began administer-floor and began administer-f ing CPR, and continued chest compressions until paramedics arrived. Later that summer, Da- moff encouraged her staff in Oakville and Ottawa to take emergency first-aid and CPR training with St. John Am- bulance - all members of her staff received their certifica- tions as a result. St. John Canada estab- lished the St. John Ambu- lance Life-Saving Awards program more than 30 years ago to recognize citizens who come to the aid of others in a crisis. The Silver Life-Saving Award goes to an individual or group of individuals who have saved or attempted to save a life by applying first- aid knowledge and skills, where no risk to life exists, stated the release. Damoff was nominated by St. John Ambulance Oak- ville-Milton and Halton Hills, and was presented with the award by Sean Liv- ingston, chair of the honours and awards committee. "St. John Ambulance is about saving lives. We offer the most comprehensive first-aid and CPR trainingfirst-aid and CPR trainingf programs, and train people to take appropriate action in such situations," he said. "So, it's important to high- light and recognize people in the community, like Ms. Da- moff, who take the initiative and use first-aid in attempt- ing to save a life, because that's what St. John Ambu- lance is all about."
