Oakville North-Burlington has some amazing local restau- rants, hiking paths and parks to enjoy while the weather lasts! As fall approaches I would like to highlight what your PC government has been working on to deliver on the promises we made to the people of Ontario during this year's election. I was honoured to be ap- pointed by Premier Doug Ford as parliamentary assistant to the minister of health, with re- sponsibility for long-term care. I have been fortunate to visit many of our community's se- niors' residences and know we need to build more long-term beds to address the growing wait list. Our government is commit- ted to building 15,000 new long- term care beds in the next five years and 30,000 in 10 years. I know Health Minister Chris- tine Elliott and I will deliver on one of the most critical issues facing our community andfacing our community andf province. We have also launched theWe have also launched theW Financial Commission of Inqui- ry. Led by former British Co- lumbia Premier Gordon Camp- bell, this commission will con- duct a line-by-line audit of On- tario's public finances and government accounting prac- tices. We are confident the audit will aid in finding cost-effective measures to restore trust and accountability back to Onta- rio's public finances. With the new school year up-With the new school year up-W on us, your government is fo- cused on ensuring our educa- tion system accomplishes two goals: respecting parents and preparing our children for a successful future. This month, we will be launching the largest province- wide public consultation that will allow parents, educators and interested individuals from communities across Ontario to contribute. Our goal is to find ways to improve math scores, teach important life skills like financial literacy, which in turnfinancial literacy, which in turnf will equip our students to suc- ceed in a complex world. PC GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES PROVINCEWIDE CONSULTATION OPINION 'WE ARE WORKING TO RESTORE TRUST AND TRANSPARENCY,' SAYS TRIANTAFILOPOULOS EFFIE TRIANTAFILO- POULOS Column I visited the Firehouse Subs on Dorval Drive just before leaving on a month-long trip to France and England in July. After travelling to England (seven hours), waiting two hours at Manchester Airport se- curity and then waiting another six hours for our flight to Geneva, I woke in France the next morn- ing and looked for my wallet. I was shocked and alarmed to find I did not have it. It contained all of the usual cards: My driver's licence, health card, cred- it and loyalty cards, li- brary card, etc. I had heard recently of so many thefts at air- ports that I naturally as- sumed this was the case. I called my bank from France and they immedi- ately cancelled my credit and bank cards. It spoiled my holiday a little and I had a horrible feeling returning to Man-feeling returning to Man-f chester Airport, where I assumed a theft had oc- curred. Late last month, I re- turned home to a message on my phone. It was the Royal Bank telling meRoyal Bank telling meR that they had some infor- mation about my wallet. I was intrigued. When I returned the bank's call, I was told that Firehouse Subs had my wallet. I was delight- ed and shocked and a lit- tle embarrassed that I had unwittingly given Manchester Airport travellers a bad rap. Angel, the owner of the Firehouse Subs fran- chise, had not only come to my apartment to re- turn the wallet but reached out to the Royal Bank and ask that they in- form me. form me. f She was a little dis- tressed that something might have happened to me because of the space of time that she hadn't heard from me.from me.f I offered the cash in the wallet, which was $150, but she refused to take it. She said, "it happens of- ten, I do this all the time." Wow, wow, wow. Ku-Wow, wow, wow. Ku-W dos to Angel and her staff. ANNA WILLIAMSON IT'S A PARENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO TALK TO THEIR CHILDREN ABOUT SEX The people have spo- ken and want changes to the sex-ed curriculum. Why? Because it's the par- ents' job to tell their chil- dren what's right and wrong sexually - not the government's. By repealing the 2015 sex-ed curriculum, it is my understanding that the fundamentals will not change and new issues, like cyber bullying, will be included. However, when it comes to morality, I be- lieve the state has no business being in the bedrooms of the nation. BYRON PERRY FAITH IN MANKIND RESTORED
