LET US BE YOUR FINANCIAL CADDIES The best part about be- ing a carrier for the Oak- ville Beaver is "getting to be outside and connecting with people in my neigh- bourhood," said 14-year- old Clayton Marshall. There are definitely other enjoyable aspects of the job, he added, "such as participating in the carri- er bonus points incentive program, where I am re- warded for my efforts out- side of the paper carrier job, like answering the monthly calendar trivia challenge, volunteering in my community and achieving notable school marks." Being a carrier has al- so taught Clayton about responsibility and having a positive work ethic "which are both impor- tant qualities for holding future employment," saidfuture employment," saidf the Grade 9 Abbey Park High School student. "Because of that, I am proud that I have been recognized for my good work." He would definitely recommend the job of car- rier to his friends. "It is a terrific opportu- nity for other youth to get a sense for what it is like to have a job," Clayton said. "I had some school- mates that held paper routes in their neighbour- hoods. I thought that I would like to try it, so I made inquiries to learn more about the job. I started in May of 2015 and have been on the job for over three years." In 2017, he was chosen carrier of the year. The customers who nominat- ed him described Clayton as "responsible," "reli- able," "consistent" and "a great young man." Clayton doesn't just de- liver the newspaper, he reads the Oakville Beaver to learn about local hap- penings. The Oakville Beaver is always looking for carri- ers.
