Highly regarded for its interpretation of 15th-17th century early sacred mu- sic, the Marian Consort will perform at St. Jude's Anglican Church at 160 William St. on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. It's the first concert of St. Jude's Celebration of the Arts' 2018-19 season, its 28th. The ensemble will per- form in three U.S. states be- fore debuting in Canada as part of its first North American tour. Known for engaging and imaginative programming, the Marian Consort will be performing music from two fertile periods in musi- cal history: musical set- tings in honour of the Vir- gin Mary from the Tudor era will be juxtaposed with treatments of the Marian texts by 20th and 21st centu- ry British composers. The group is directed by its founder and counter- tenor Rory McCleery, a graduate of St Peter's Col- lege Oxford.
