It is priceless what our children can glean from time spent at an elder-from time spent at an elder-f ly person's feet. Q: What inspired you to become a foster par- ent? A: This may sound so idealistic or make others roll their eyes, but the truth is that it was my love for my husband. From thefor my husband. From thef early days of our relation- ship to now, we have always felt so blessed to be togeth-felt so blessed to be togeth-f er and our love so strong that it felt selfish to keep it just between the two of us. This is why we have five children. We knew that our happy romantic marriage would raise happy kids and intuitively we also knew that the happiness and se- curity that our family brings can spill over to our foster children. foster children. f I saw a Halton Chil- dren's Aid Society ad in The Oakville Beaver call- ing out for foster parents. I cut it out and tacked it onto my laundry room cork- board. For two years while I folded baby clothes in that laundry room, I would look at it and think that we would do it, some day. So that day came when my wonderfully supportive husband said why not... We've never regretted it.We've never regretted it.W Fostering has brought far more good to our family than we have given. It is good for our hearts. People often ask us if it hurts to see the children leave our home and the answer is simply yes. A wise man - my husband - once said that if it didn't hurt we didn't do a good job... Q: Why is this ball im- portant to you? A: I want to hold up a ball and ask everyone what their play is? Yes, even adults should try to think as far back as they can to remember what they like to play. Perhaps this will guide you in understand- ing what you should truly be doing today. I played school teacher. Are you surprised? . . .
