"In our lives, we all have an opportunity to make a difference, and if you can choose some- thing in your life where you can make an impact, then it is going to be bet- ter for you and better for society," said Donovan. After leading students through his journey of discovering his passion and becoming a journal- ist, Donovan stressed the importance of network- ing. Students had the op- portunity to chat and net- work with community members and leaders in the legal field. "No matter what you do, just make sure you love what you're doing," Donovan advised. The Youth in Law and Justice event is planned by an executive team of students and staff at the school, who arrange ev- erything from marketing the night to ordering food. Students partici-food. Students partici-f pate in mock trials during the school year, and through this activity are introduced to local law- yers invited to attend the Youth in Law and JusticeYouth in Law and JusticeY evening and help facili- tate discussion about law. "All of us on the exec- utive team believe that law is a really important thing that every student should have a good un- derstanding of," says Eun Seo Choi, Grade 11 stu- dent and member of the executive team at Abbey Park. Many who attend have been coming for several years and marvel at how the event continues to grow. "To see how it's evolved is surreal," says Jude Haj Ali, a 2014 graduate who returned to her alma ma- ter to attend. "Being a part of the Legal Eagles law club at Abbey Park really helped me with what I wanted to do after high school." Olga Karmanova, a Grade 12 student and president of the law club, says she has been attend- ing for four years, be- cause of the networking opportunities and fantas- tic discussion. "Youth in Law and Jus- tice is special, because it is a unique event where students can start to net- work with professionals in multiple fields involv- ing law," says Max Over- ton, an Abbey Park stu- dent. "It also allows stu- dents to get a better un- derstanding of what they want to do after they are finished school."finished school."f NEWS Continued from page 52 SIGN UP FOR OUR WEEKLY NEWSLETTER AT INSIDEHALTON.COM
