The town's 2019 budget committee voted Tuesday, Jan. 22, to recommend a 1.99 per cent increase to the town's portion of the tax bill. The overall property tax increase works out to 1.53 per cent when combined with the 1.9 per cent increase to Halton Region taxes and an expected 0 per cent increase to education rates. The pro- posed increase means that residential property taxes would increase by $11.72 per $100,000 of assessment or that the owner of a home assessed at $800,000 would pay an ad- ditional $93.75 per year, or $1.80 per week. The proposed budget will go forward to council for approval at the Jan. 28 meeting. "For over a decade, it has been a priority of this council to keep overall property tax increases in line with infla- tion, and once again we have met that goal," said budget committee chair/Ward 6 town and regional Coun.
