Halton Walk for Down Syndrome (HDSA) is a two- kilometre walk open to family, friends and the community to increase awareness about Down syndrome and to raise funds for research, educa- tion and advocacy pro- grams. Last year's event raised more than $120,000, which enabled HDSA to create op- portunities for individuals with Down syndrome to de- velop skills and make con- nections with each other and the community - in- cluding programs like Handwriting Without Tears; a World Down Syn- drome Day school educa- tion project and contest; art and music therapy and sign language classes; mul- ti-sports and yoga pro- grams; social skills and cooking class programs; and support and confer- ence bursaries. The event begins at 9 a.m., with the walk start- ing at 10 a.m. Festivities will go until 2 p.m. and in- clude a carnival, BBQ, po- ny rides, bouncy castles and a silent auction.
