The Halton Police Services Board announced Sept. 3 that Supt. Jeff Hill will be promoted to the role of deputy chief of po- lice. Hill will join Chief Stephen Tanner and Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie in leading the police ser- vice. "The police board is confident that Deputy Chief Jeff Hill will enable us to continue to deliver and raise the standard of com- munity and staff safety and well- being to which we are dedicated," said Oakville Mayor and Halton Police Board chair Rob Burton. Burton said Hill was chosen following an extensive internalfollowing an extensive internalf search for an individual who would fulfil the mission and vi- sion of the Halton Police Services Board in supporting the chief, the police service, and the Hal- ton community. The board chair noted Hill's broad experience, exemplary leadership skills and ability to connect meaningfully with com- munity partners will make him a most effective deputy chief and will strengthen the service's leadership bench. In his role as acting deputy chief of regional operations, Hill oversaw approximately 500 po- lice service members in the ar- eas of regional investigative ser- vices, corporate services, human resources, emergency services training, court services and communications. As superintendent for region- al investigative services, Hill was responsible for developing and overseeing investigative pro- cesses and an operating budget of more than $21 million. Tanner said through commu- nity collaboration, Hill also led important initiatives, including a complete review of how the ser- vice responds to survivors of do- mestic violence, resulting in sig- nificant improvements to the victims service unit. "As chief of police I am pleased to announce that Supt. Jeff Hill will become our next deputy chief of police. Jeff will join Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie and I on the executive manage- ment team. Deputy Chief Hill brings to the position a great deal of experience from across our po- lice service, including a consid- erable amount of time as the commander of human resources and most recently as the com- mander of our regional investi- gative services, which oversees homicide, sexual assault, domes- tic violence, intelligence, drugs and morality, human traffick- ing, forensic identification ser- vices, and regional frauds," said Tanner.
