Care about /newsletters Four people from QuebecFour people from QuebecF are facing numerous charg- es after the theft of several high-end vehicles from Oak- ville homes. Between Sept. 17 and Sept. 23, Halton police re- ceived 10 reports of newer- model Lexus and Toyota SUVs being stolen during overnight hours from resi- dential driveways in north Oakville. Police said in a news re- lease they initiated an ac- tion plan, which included crime prevention messag- ing for the public, increased patrols, "exhaustive can- vassing" and collaboration with other jurisdictions in an effort to identify and ap- prehend the people respon- sible. During the early morn- ing hours of Tuesday, Sept. 24, Halton police were con- ducting proactive patrols in a residential neighbour- hood that had already been heavily targeted by these car thieves. During this time, patrol officers stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Pos- tridge Drive and Dundas Street. While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, the officers formed reasonable grounds to arrest all four in- dividuals for possession of break and enter tools. During a search of the ve- hicle, officers located sever- al Lexus key fobs, an on- board diagnostics device, gloves and flashlights.gloves and flashlights.g Officers also located the personal identification of a victim who had his SUV sto- len on Sept. 16. Nearly $10,000 in cash was also located on one of the individuals. Jordy Charles, 23, Abdel Balo, 18, and Shainna Faus- tin, 26, all from Montreal, and Victor Kazibwe, 20, of Longueuil, Quebec have each been charged with pos- session of property obtained by crime and possession of break-in instruments. Faustin is also charged with possession of a con- trolled substance (a small amount of MDMA) and four counts of breach of proba- tion. Kazibwe also faces charges of possession of pro- ceeds of crime and failing to comply with recognizance. All four individuals were held in custody pending a bail hearing. Police would not com- ment on whether any of the stolen vehicles have been re- covered. Anyone with additional information about these thefts is asked to contact Halton police at 905-825-4747 ext. 2278 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). 4 YOUNG MEN ARRESTED AFTER RASH OF VEHICLE THEFTS DAVID LEA dlea@metroland.com NEWS 40%Off 40% off any order of $1000 or more. 30% off any order of $700 or more.
