Penny was born January 30, 1950, at Women's College Hospital in Toronto where she later earned her nursing degree. Penny went into nursing at the age of 21 and quickly rose to become a top surgical nurse working in many O.R.'s throughout Ontario. Penny was short listed for the coveted Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing in 2008. Penny is survived by her two sons Bradley Franchuk and Cameron Franchuk, her grandson Alexander, her mother Joyce Pickett, her brother Scott Picket and sister Colleen Pickett. Many nieces, nephews, cousins of two generations and her aunt Cynthia Wilson will miss her as well. A Celebration of Life is being held on November 9, 2019, at 2511 Lakeshore Rd W, Oakville, ON. L6L 6L9., from 2-5 p.m. in the Schooner Room. All are welcome. SPURGEON, John Henry March 15, 1947 - October 21, 2019 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Henry Spurgeon on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Loving husband to Carolyn Spurgeon and devoted father to Robert (Catherine) Spurgeon. Survived by his brothers Bill (Sue) Spurgeon, Peter (Sandy) Spurgeon and brother- in-law Buck (Diana) Spear. He was brave and courageous with the many challenges he faced and always carried on with a big smile. John's greatest joy came from spending time with his family and gardening. Dearly loved and grieved by Son Steven and Granddaughters Claudia and Natalie and missed by close friends to whom she held so dear. Many thanks in particular to Claudia Parys, Alice Parsons, and the Shaa family who were a very strong support to Brenda throughout this difficult time. Born in England, Brenda was a long time resident of Oakville, Ontario and enjoyed community activity and social interaction. Always having an adventurous spirit and a zest for life, Brenda travelled widely and in recent years was frequently in the Republic of Panama with Steven and her Granddaughters. Following Brenda's wishes a private cremation service has already taken place at Glen Oaks Funeral Home. A Memorial Service to celebrate Brenda's life will take place in the Oakville area during the Spring with details to be delivered shortly. A life well lived and a legacy that will live on.
