Her bright smile and uplifting spirit will be missed by her father Gary, her mother Catherine, her sister Jessica (Reuben), her beloved niece Kara, her brother Peter (Eleanor), and all of her cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and pets (Ginny and Delta). DASHNEY, Thomas James Jim Dashney passed away at Chartwell Colonial Residence in Whitby, Ontario on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was dearly loved by Clare, his wife of 64 years, and two sons, Stephen (Nancy) of Kingston, ON and Kevin (Suzanne) of Whitby, ON. He was predeceased by a third son, James Edward in 2001, and his brother Donald Raymond in 2016. He was born in Ottawa on December 16, 1930. His parents were Donald Leslie and Mary Margaret (Summers). He is survived by his sister Edna Mary Dashney of Ottawa along with five grandchildren, Mark, Thomas and Marisa of Whitby and Toronto, and Joseph and Adam of Kingston. Jim was a true gentleman and a kind, patient and loving husband, father and grandfather. He spent his entire career with the Royal Bank beginning in Ottawa with stops in Goose Bay, Montreal, Prescott and Toronto. Jim, Clare and the family lived in Oakville for 40 years where they made many lifelong friends. He was a committed Catholic all his life and was involved in parish life as a youth leader, Eucharistic Minister, lector, and much more. He especially loved the community at St. Dominic's parish in Oakville. In 2014, Jim and Clare moved back to Ottawa where they have many relatives and friends. They loved their beautiful home in Kanata and their friendly neighbors. Due to health issues, they had to sell the house and move to Whitby, closer to Kevin and his family. Jim and Clare were both happy with the care and welcome they have received at Chartwell Colonial Residence. Jim was a man of simple tastes and loved his garden, golfing, painting and puttering in his workroom. He especially loved travelling abroad and annual trips to Florida. Jim had a special love for the poor and supported several charities and organizations such as Canadian Food for Children. Visitation took place at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Sunday, November 3rd from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was held at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CHURCH, 903 Giffard Street, Whitby on Monday, November 4th at 11:00 a.m. A reception followed in the Parish Centre. Burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery in Ottawa at a later date. We would like to thank our family and dear friends who supported Jim with visits, prayers, phone calls and other kindnesses. Online condolences may be made at www.oshawafuneralhome.com MADILL, Phyllis (nee Rankine) Phyllis passed away peacefully in Oakville, Ontario on October 8, 2019 after a brief illness. She was in her 90th year. She will be sadly missed by nephews William (Jane) and Bruce Millar, grand-nephews Quin (Karen), Stephen (Jacqueline) and grand- nieces Jennifer Kell and Jocelyn Millar, plus six great-grand-nephews and two great-grand-nieces. William and Bruce lost their mother at an early age and their mother's sister, Phyllis, played a large part in their lives. In 1974, Phyllis married Earl Madill (late) who came with an admiring family, John (Joyce), Margaret Sheppard (Michael), Joseph (late) and Beth (Timothy Howard), plus three grandsons Jason, (Monica) Christopher, (Lisa) and Craig, (Michelle Briere) and two great-granddaughters Rory and Nora. Phyllis was an avid reader on many subjects and always enthusiastic for an inspiring conversation. When Phyllis was not in the literary world, she could be found admiring butterflies and feeding the many species of birds. Phyllis will be greatly missed by family and many friends. A remembrance gathering will be held in her honour at a later date. O'REILLY, Francis Ronald (Ron) Born April 1, 1925, Amaranth Township, Ontario, passed on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the age of 94. Predeceased by Helen (2018), his loving wife of 70 Years. He was the loving father of Mary (Alex), Margaret (Alexey), Jamie (Lisa), Heather, Alex (Rachel), and loved grandfather of Andrea (Jeff), Gregg (Kathryn), Wes (Jennifer), Heather (Lorne), Meghan (Geoff), Jennifer (Andrew), Brian (Meg), Alex (Mike), Duncan and Clare. Great-grandfather of Emma, Abby, Jake, Charlee, Sam, Will, Jordan, Travis, Gage, Kenna, Stella, Max, and Foster. Survived by sister-in law Catherine and brother-in law Bruce. Ron Joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1943, and as a member of the Number One Canadian Special Wireless Group of the Royal Signals Corps was deployed to the Southwest Pacific Theatre in 1944 at the age of 18. He was stationed near Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia until the end of the war. Ron was awarded the Pacific star for his service. Upon his return home, Ron married his high school sweetheart Helen Davis and began his civil service career at the Post Office in Shelburne, On. Subsequently moving to Beamsville, On. as PostMaster and later moving to Oakville to continue his career in Toronto and at the Canada Post regional headquarters in Hamilton. Helen and Ron remained in Oakville after Ron's retirement. Ron was a member of the Ontario Puppetry Association and was association president in 1952 and 1953. The marionettes he created continue to amaze his grandchildren. While living in Shelburne, Ron was an original member of the Bruce Trail Association and helped to mark the trail in Dufferin County. Ron enjoyed a lifelong interest in radio communications as an active member of the Ham radio club in Shelburne and later Oakville. He enjoyed camping with his family in the summer and was an avid singer in the church choirs. Ron had the ability to speak through a single eyebrow raise and was a huge Maple Leaf fan in the early years and a Toronto Blue Jays fan. Ron loved to work in his wood shop. Ron would return to Australia with Helen in 1989 for a very special trip across the continent, where they took hundreds of photos that his family continues to enjoy through one of his many famous slide shows. The family would like to thank the staff at Post Inn Long Term Care who have looked after our father with respect and kindness for the last 12 years. Cremation has taken place. Ron will be interred in the family plot in Shelburne Cemetery with Helen in the springtime. Arrangements entrusted to Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, Oakville.
