In late 2019, officers with the Peel po- lice vice, narcotics and street level orga- nized crime unit began an investigation into several individuals in regards to ille- gal possession of firearms. As a result of evidence and informa- tion obtained during the course of the in- vestigation, and with assistance from the tactical and K9 unit, a search warrant was conducted in the area of Burnham- thorpe Road West and Duke of York Bou- levard in Mississauga. Police announced Sunday, Dec. 15 that as a result of the investigation, the follow- ing firearms were located and seized: •A FNX nine-millimetre semi-auto- matic handgun •A Glock 19 nine-millimetre semi-auto- matic handgun •A Smith & Wesson M&P nine-milli- metre semi-automatic handgun •A SCCY CPX nine-millimetre semi- automatic handgun "The tenacity shown by officers in this investigation is an excellent example of the commitment of our officers, in remov- ing illegal firearms from our streets," said Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiap- pah. "The safety of our community in Peel Region will always be the No. 1 priority for us and without a doubt, the seizure of these firearms and arrests of these indi- viduals will mitigate continued risk in our region." Police were tight-lipped about the spe- cifics of the investigation, refusing to pro- vide the names of the accused or what specific charges they are facing. Officers also refused to comment on the context of the investigation, not say- ing if suspects are part of a gang or some kind of firearm trafficking ring. The accused individuals will all face firearm related charges and will appearfirearm related charges and will appearf at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bramp- ton on Dec. 15 to answer the charges.
