Nearly 30 people are fac- ing more than 200 criminal charges in connection with a multi-million dollar ille- gal gaming operation tied to a series of attempted murders, arsons, extortion threats, shootings and as- saults. One of those charged, 49- year-old Oakville resident Craig McIlquham, is a member of the notorious Hells Angels motorcycle gang, the OPP said in a re- lease. OPP launched Project Hobart as a result of "an es- calation of violence across Ontario and Quebec" be- tween August 2017 and May 2018 which included at- tempted murders, arsons, extortion threats, shoot- ings and assaults. Their focus was on an il- legal gaming organization controlled by members of the Hell's Angels outlaw motorcycle gang. During the course of the investigation, a known member of Hell's Angels and a member of this illegal gaming criminal organiza- tion - Michael (Diaz) Dea- baitua-Schulde, 32 - was murdered in March 2019 as he left a gym he frequented in Mississauga. The investigation led po- lice to a gaming house in Mississauga, where police identified five sophisticated illegal gaming websites controlled by the criminal enterprise. The website names are Ultimate SB, Ti- tan SB, PlaytoWin SB, Pri- vada SB and Players SB. In terms of revenue, from Jan. 1 to the beginningfrom Jan. 1 to the beginningf of July, the sportsbook as- sociated to the Hells Angels brought in approximately $13 million in gaming reve- nue. The investigation sug- gests the sportsbooks have been in operation for more than five years and have brought in gross revenues of more that $131 million, police said. Police linked the opera- tors of this illegal gaming organization to the Figlio- meni crime family. During the search war- rants executed last week, police seized seven homes and two vacation proper- ties valued at just more than $8.1 million, financial accounts holding a total of more than $1.2 million, 18 vehicles, more than $1.7 million in cash, multiple gold and silver coins and bars valued at $320,000, 21 guns and other items. "Criminal organizations and the hallmarks of their illegal enterprises - gun vio- lence, deaths, assaults and the extraordinary amount of money that fuel further criminal acts continue to threaten public safety," OPP Commissioner Thom- as Carrique said. "Police and partner agencies will continue to fully collabo- rate and aggressively target the ring leaders, their asso- ciates, and their lavish criminal lifestyle to make our cities and towns safer." Here are the Halton resi- dents charged: McIlquham, of Oakville, faces several firearmsfaces several firearmsf charges, along with fraud, income tax and book mak- ing control charges. Steve Clayton, 60, John Daher, 42, Atillio Montele- one, 42, all of Oakville, face bookmaking and other charges. Sam Parker, 49, of Mil- ton, faces bookmaking charges. Police say it was a com- plex multijurisdictional in- vestigation that involved 18 agencies, including Halton Regional Police.
