The purpose of this let- ter is to support our police officers as they enforce the law for the benefit of our entire community. Our class was disturbed at how the police were be- ing treated in a recent en- counter that was published on insidehalton.com. The story was titled "VIDEO: Halton police re- spond to Oakville toboggan hill and disperse families for overcrowding concerns as man says daughter in tears." We strongly disagree with the headline used and how the officers were treat- ed by the public. We believe the headline insinuates a negative message about our police officers, which is not deserved. They are front-line workers who put themselves in harm's way every day. We know that your offi- cers treat each member of the community with hu- man dignity. It is unfortu- nate that the people who were tobogganing did not realize the officers were trying to protect them as well as the community. As students, we support you and stand in solidarity with the men and women of your police service. Thank you for trying to protect our community. You are front-line workers who make a difference. As students, we would like to have a normal school year, with normal trips, graduation ceremonies, etc. This can only be ac- complished if we all act and work together to obey the rules and end this pandem- ic. Thank you for helping us. DESTIN COLE, SKYLAR FLEET, ABIGAIL KINGRY, META KONIJN, MADISON MACKIE-MATOS, KILLIAN MULLAN AND BRENDAN POSHNI GRADE 8 STUDENTS IN JOHN MACPHAIL'S CLASS AT ST.
