The toddler room (ages 18 months to 2.5 years) and preschool room (ages 2.5 years to 3.8 years) will open on April 6. The in- fant room (ages six weeks to 18 months) will open later in the spring at a date to be confirmed. The YMCA has been operating the Before and After School Child Care Program at St. Michael's since 1990 for children aged 4 to 12 years. To learn more or to in- quire about availability, contact Stacey at stacey- wi@oakville.ymca.ca or 905-580-7092. "These two new centres will support families and children at every stage of their development, from ages six weeks to 12 years," said Kyle Barber, president and CEO, YMCA of Oakville. "We know how critical child care is to local families so that parents can work and thrive in our community. We are so pleased to be able to offer more spaces to be able to fill that need." The YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum guides the program for infant, toddler and preschool children and is based on the philosophy that young children learn best through play. Early Child- hood Educators facilitate play experiences that help the children develop foun- dational skills in lan- guage and literacy, math- ematics, science and tech- nology, and the arts. The Before and After School programs for school-aged children are guided by the YMCA Place to Connect curriculum. YMCA teachers observe the interests of the chil- dren and plan an active play-based program cen- tred around those inter- ests. The Before and After School programs are de- signed to develop and en- hance social skills like leadership, teamwork, problem solving and con- flict resolution.
