With the Province's di- rection for health units to expand eligibility and vac- cinate those 12 to 17 years old by the end of August, Halton is modifying its schedule that previously called for all residents aged 16-plus to begin booking vaccinations next week. Instead, everyone aged 18 and up (born in or before 2003) will become eligible to make a vaccine appoint- ment beginning May 19. Then, those aged 12 and 17 will be inoculated through a new youth vacci- nation program that Halton Public Health is working to develop with the local school boards. "Information on clinic lo- cations and when the book- ing system will be updated to offer appointments for all 12 to 17-year-olds will be shared as the details of the program are confirmed," explains a prepared release from Halton Region. The release goes on to in- dicate that those aged 16 and 17 who have already booked their first dose appoint- ments as part of existing eli- gible groups, such as resi- dents who can't work at home, may need to have their second dose appoint- ment rescheduled by the end of August and will be contacted when necessary. "We are following pro- vincial direction and put- ting plans in place to vacci- nate our youth populations, in addition to our adult vac- cination program," said Re- gional Chair Gary Carr. Halton Public Health is encouraging residents who are 18 years old and return- ing to high school in Sep- tember to get their shots through the youth vaccina- tion program in order to re- ceive their second dose by the end of August.
