Jim had a charmed life. From UTS in Toronto he went on to graduate from MIT in Boston and Osgood Hall Law School in Toronto. In college, he was a three-sport athlete lettering in hockey, swimming, and golf. Golf remained a lifelong passion. Jim was a 40-year member of the Mississauga Golf and Country Club and at times; the Fort Lauderdale Golf and Country Club, Mad River Golf Club and recently Batteau Creek Golf Club. Remarkably, he won Club Championships at all four clubs. As a valued multi -year member of the Canadian Seniors Golf Association team, he had the privilege of representing Canada many times in the Devonshire Cup and International Triangular matches traveling to the weeklong tournaments in England and the United States. Jim was fortunate to have had three wonderful loves in his life. He will be warmly remembered by Lynn Whitten, the mother of his four children: Christopher, Mark, Michael, and Cynthia. And by Laura Fuller who pre-deceased him in 2008. Jim will be very deeply missed by his beloved wife, Muffie Grieve (who he treasured and traveled the world with!!) and her children, Kate, Michael, and Ian. He was a loving grandfather to many grandchildren and great grandchildren in both families. Jim loved music and was a long-time skier with his children where he, personally, built a chalet for his family in Ellicottville, N.Y. He had a natural curiosity for seemingly all things. A thoroughbred during his life ... to his family and friends he was immeasurably kind, positive, full of integrity and wise. During a long and distinguished judicial career on the Provincial Court Bench, despite working to make decisions quickly to prevent court backlogs, his judgements were never overturned on appeal. We suspect this is rather amazing and a testament to a great wisdom. Special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at the Collingwood Hospital, the Blue Mountain Manor and the Campbell House Palliative Residence. The family would appreciate any donations be made to Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood, ON.
