Mayor Rob Burton said the new clinic -- which opened last Thursday (June 17) is the result of a signifi- cant supply of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine now coming to Halton. The Oakville YMCA is located at 410 Rebecca St., and residents can now book appointments at this site. The mayor said Halton Public Health continues to vaccinate residents as quickly as vaccine supplies allow and as supplies in- crease, the number of ap- pointments available across all clinics will also increase. The province has classi- fied Halton Region as a hot spot for the highly conta- gious Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus and is now allowing many residents to book accelerated second doses. "Today (June 14), the Re- gion successfully updated the Halton booking portal for the rebooking of second dose appointments follow- ing last week's announce- ment from the province of accelerated booking in Del- ta variant hotspots," said Burton. "The update even includ- ed second dose bookings for those who received the As- traZeneca vaccine as their first dose following the province's updated guid- ance over the weekend." Residents who received the AstraZeneca vaccine for their first dose and wish to receive an mRNA vac- cine for their second dose, are now able to book at a minimum interval of eight weeks through the Region's online booking system. Burton said Canada now leads the world with 64 per cent of the nation's popula- tion having received at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. In Halton, he noted, 74 per cent of eligible resi- dents aged 12 and older have received at least their first dose.
