The project, funded by the federal government, was developed by Canada's Indigenous organiza- tions working with the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Those involved in the effort said it was believed to be the first of its kind. The four-volume atlas is a learning resource described as a comprehensive atlas on Indigenous lands, languages and culture in Canada. Expressive narratives relate the experiences, per- spectives, and histories of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The unprecedented project was inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, exploring themes of language, demographics, colonization, cultural appropriation, racism, economy, environment and culture, with in-depth coverage of treaties and residential s c h o o l s t h r o u g h stories of C a n a d a 's Indigenous Peoples, complete with detailed maps and personal stories and reflections. A glossary of Indigenous terms, map of Indigenous languages, and frequently asked questions are includ- ed in the atlas that serves as a resource in classrooms. Referred to as an important educational tool, the collection can be experienced in print and online at indigenouspeoplesatlasofcanada.ca. It's available at local bookstores, Amazon.ca or Chapters.Indigo.ca.
