The progress report on climate change action was presented to council dur- ing its Monday, June 21 meeting. In 2020-2021, town staff said the town: • developed a Climate Change Projections Report to understand how climate change will impact the op- erations of the town toward the end of the century un- der both high and low greenhouse gas emission scenarios. The results indi- cate that, among other im- pacts, Oakville should ex- pect to experience signifi- cantly warmer, wetter, wil- der and windier weather. • used the findings of the Climate Change Projec- tions Report to inform the corporate and community emergency management programs, exceeding 2020 emergency management provincial compliance standards in using climate projections to inform the risk assessment process. • undertook community climate mitigation and ad- aptation initiatives such as outreach and education, community energy plan- ning and OakvilleReady, a program which aims to build community resil- ience to extreme weather through education and the establishment of neigh- bourhood hubs. • embedded climate con- siderations throughout the town through a series of risk and vulnerability as- sessments and is on track to meet provincial compli- ance requirements for the integration of climate change into the municipal asset management plan- ning process. • in partnership with the Oakville Energy Task Force, continued to make progress on the implemen- tation of the council-en- dorsed Community Ener- gy Strategy priority pro- jects, including a service agreement between the town and Future Energy Oakville, a new non-profit whose mandate is to cham- pion community-driven energy solutions.
