The service can be ac- cessed by visiting www.oakville.ca/online- services and selecting Con- struction and Renovations. "Council and staff are constantly striving to offer services in alternative ways to help our communi- ty move forward. Provid- ing the opportunity for res- idents and businesses to apply for building permits online is just one way we are moving in the right di- rection," said Mayor Rob Burton. "It's all part of the town's Digital Oakville Plan with the goal of providing com- prehensive online services and streamlining process- es to create consistent, pre- dictable and customer-fo- cused services for our com- munity." Town staff said through this online service, regis- tered users can apply for new building permits, sub- mit permit-related draw- ings and documents, track the status of an application as it moves through re- views and approvals, pay for permits, request in- spections and view the re- sults -- all online. "Whether you are a builder, designer, develop- er or homeowner, we know that submitting plans and drawings digitally will be a benefit. It also makes good business sense as it allows for efficiencies as several staff can now assist on a file at the same time," said Ralph Kaminiski, director and chief building official at the Town of Oakville. The town is able to ac- cept all types of building permit applications, staff said, ranging from small decks and accessory struc- tures to large industrial and multistorey buildings. They said the only ex- ception is revisions, town- houses and conditional or partial permits. Staff said they plan to include these types of ap- plications in the near fu- ture as the online service continues to evolve. The Town of Oakville now allows for online building permit applications.
