LETTERS & COMMENTARY Having read the article about poor human beha- viour impacting the Bruce Trail, I was disappointed that it was so short and did not pointedly address many issues. I am a member of the Bruce Trail Conservancy and hike the trails regular- ly. I have done so for 50 years. I follow the rules at each trail -- some are different, allowing bikes, horses and dogs -- and expect others to do the same. But more of- ten than not that is not the case. People walk unleashed dogs (often multiples), and some dog owners do not clean up after their dogs -- or worse, pick up the poop and then leave the bag. My little dog and I have been charged by large dogs; it is scary and the owners often take little re- sponsibility for their dogs' behaviour. Other hikers leave trash, toilet paper, human waste, masks, etc. along the trails. There is also often evi- dence of fires, graffiti and vandalism. Often cyclists overtake hikers with little concern for their safety. Some hik- ers are older, may not hear well and may be unstable if startled. We all need to share and care for the Bruce Trail -- it is maintained by volun- teers, and some parts are private property -- and other public areas that we use. Let's leave a light foot- print on this earth and take nothing but pictures. We all benefit from consider- ation for each other and our environment.
