23 | O akville B eaver | T hursday,D ecem ber 16,2021 insidehalton.com Earlier this month, Oak- ville resident Lesley Man- chester decided to take a visiting friend to the Cana- dian Golf Hall of Fame (CGHF). The spot, located on the grounds of the Glen Abbey Golf Club, is Cana- da's national landmark cel- ebrating achievements in the sport of golf. However, Manchester's excitement quickly came to an end when she saw that the museum was closed, leaving her feeling "disappointed." She reached out to the Oakville Beaver to find out why. "Golf Canada's (GC) of- fice, including the Hall of Fame, was closed in March of 2020 during the initial shut-down of the province related to the first wave of the pandemic," Golf Cana- da's director of heritage services Meggan Gardner said in an emailed state- ment. "As part of our current health protocols, GC is not allowing outside guests be- yond staff to access our of- fice space." Mail and couri- er services are an excep- tion. GC is the national gov- erning body of the sport that shares a building with the Hall of Fame and one other company, Insurance Insight Inc. A small work- force from GC does use the building under a strict rules regime. Certain de- partments are being al- lowed to work in person for up to two days per week on specific days. The organization is playing it by ear and is not yet committing to a reopen- ing date. They hope to open for the 2022 golf season in the spring. The plan is to "open at a lower capacity and ensure that visitors are of the same household," Gardner said. Proof of vac- cination will be required. "If they have certain days where they stay open for two hours to the public, then it should be on the website. It should be acces- sible," Manchester said. "There should be a posting on the door saying only open for a couple of hours and these are the days." The CGHF is home to the largest archive of golf photography and library in Canada. More than 50,000 images and 3,500 books and periodicals can be found in the location. Glen Abbey will once again host the Canadian Open this week.
