ROSS, Pat August 7, 1930 - January 18, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ It is with profound sadness, our family announces the passing of Sarah Patricia (Pat) Ross in her 92nd year on January 18, 2022 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). Pat was predeceased by her beloved husband, Don Ross (2008), her parents John 'Jack' and Isabel Trant, and brothers John and Peter. Mom was a woman of inner strength, faith, and quiet confidence. She embodied dignity and grace. Above all, she valued her family and friendships. Mom was respected by all for how she carried herself through life. Pat was a devoted mother to Janice (Barry Laberge), Cathy (Wayne) and David. 'Nana' took great pride and delight in her grandchildren; Christopher (Michelle), Andrea (Sean), Sarah (Stephen) and Graeme. She grew up in north Toronto and attended Toronto Normal School where she obtained her teaching certificate. Mom began her career in Oakville as a Grade 1-2 teacher at Westwood and Brantwood public schools in the early '50's. It was at Westwood where she met the love of her life, Don. After staying home to raise their three children, Pat returned to teaching, at Elmwood and Oakwood public schools, retiring in 1986 from the career she enjoyed immensely. Mom was a double cancer survivor. In gratitude for her care, she devoted countless hours as a volunteer supporting OTMH in a variety of roles, such as the facture clinic, President of the Hospital Auxiliary, and serving on the hospital Board of Directors. She was also involved in fundraising for an extension to the original hospital. Born and raised Anglican, Pat was an honorary Presbyterian, as a nod to Don's heritage. She participated in the choir for a time, and was active in the Chancel Guild of Knox Presbyterian Church. A long time member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, she was responsible for the annual Daffodil Campaign and was Woman of the Year and served in various local and regional roles in the organization. Pat was an avid bridge player and loved a game of golf. She belonged to the Oakville Golf Club for 50 years. She played in the Woman's 9 Hole League and had a term as President of the league. Admired for her culinary skills, Pat was a gracious hostess. Her Christmas baking and candy gifts were legendary! Nana was a creative individual, learning to smock so she could make beautiful dresses for her granddaughters. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and reading. Mom was curious, always willing to explore. These characteristics showed in her love of travelling the world with Dad and friends or spending time in the summer with the family at a cottage in Port Elgin. Mom was taught to be independent. Her brothers showed her to wire a lamp and repair furniture. She embraced technology by taking computer lessons to stay current and connected with family and friends around the world. The family would like to thank the staff in the Memory Living unit of the Waterford Retirement Home Oakville for their care and support of Pat over the past two years. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Foundation, Knox Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be private family service. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Always so good, unselfi sh and kind, none on this earth your equal I'll fi nd. Honourable and true in all your ways, loving and faithful to the end of your days, honest and liberal, ever upright, just in your judgment, always right; loved by your friends and all whom you knew, one in a million, that person was you. Your memory is as dear today, as in the hour you passed away. And have you gone, forever gone and left us here to weep. Till we are called to follow you, and in the grave to sleep.
