Coffee Sir ? "Foster of Oakville" RESTAURANT HEART OF TOWN Scouting By Clare Willis Scouting in Oakville and dis- trict owes a great deal to its leaders who have given long and faithful service to the Scout troops and Cub packs which have been built up and maintained through the years. This year marks the retire- ment of a leader with exception- ally long and steadfast service and, the" return to scouting of an- other who during the war had to give up active leadership. Jean Crosbie organized the First Oakville Pack in Septem- ber, 1933, and continued to lead this pack until her retirement this year. Her excellent record was marked by the award of the Long Service Medal in 1945. Scouts and Cubs of all troops and packs will miss this Akela very much. Vince Dunston returns to scouting although he already has a long and" excellent record in scout leadership. In 1932 Vince became an assistant scout mas- ter with the First Long Branch troop. In 1938 he took over the leadership as scoutmaster of the Third Mimico troop and took the field training course at Blue Springs in 1939. He carried on as scoutmaster of the Third Oak- ville troop until 1942 when war work claimed him. All Scouts and Cubs -are work- ing toward the paper collection this Saturday, May 1st. If any- one has paper available outside the town limits, please telephone 564-J and arrangements will be made to collect it, Nearly half of all pedestridns killed in rural areas, say the On- tario Department of Highways, meet death while" walking along, the open roads. The gnost im. portant precaution to avoid such accidents. is to walk on the left- hand" side, so you will face the traffic approaching on your side; and you won't run the risk of be- ing hit from behind. Dol your spring hiking and all other rural walking the right way--on the left side. If your children walk to a rural school, safeguard them on the 'way by impressing them with this safety rule. At a service early: this year in Calvary Baptist church, Burlington, Mr. Sargant baptized 22 members from the Oakville congregation and he stated he hopes to arrange an- other service in the near future.
