Begg Tf, Bowling Club Boasts Active Ladies Section Although still small, the ladies' section of the Oakville Bowling club is very active and is plan- ning a drive for new membership. Last Weddnesday's meeting and ten, at whichc Mrs. Carr won the prize, were typical of its enthusi- astic spirit. As the ladies are free to bowl during the day, they have a separate executive {ncluding, Mrs. Ray Mathews, president; Mrs. W. D, Wise, vice-president; and Mrs. Tom Smith, secretary-treasurer. But their organization is included in the men's section of which Thomas Blakelock is president. Every Thursday evening jitneys are held by the whole club, while on Wednesday afternoon the lad- jes have their separate meeting. V. Dunston who, with Alex Fleming and H. T. Roden, has been active in early promotion work, the proposed club has already been offered the use of property for an outdoor range by W. C. Austill. An en- thusiast himself, Mr. Austill is one of the group who hope to make friendly small arms compe- tition a thriving part of the town sport program, Seed LR Tournaments or jitneys are held on holidays while both men and women bowl on Saturdays. "Of course," Mrs, Mathews said, "the club isc open to members at all times." Clubs from Milton, Port Credit, Streetsville and Oakville take part in tournaments, held every second Thursday night, and the ladies often travel as far as Ham- ilton for such events as the North- way trophy. Wednesday, June 23rd, is the date set for the special meeting to encourage new membership, Mrs. Mathews said, and added, "We hope any ladies who are in- terested in joining the club will come and bowl at 1:45 and stay for tea."
