The WHITE OAK CHAPTER HEARS REPORT ON GRADS FROLIC JAPANESE GUEST THRILLS GROUP AT KEYBOARD Piano selections by a young Japanese woman were enjoyed by those who attended the des- sert meeting of the Evening Auxiliary of St. John's United Church "Monday evening. The guest performer, Miss Chemoka Kamakura, who is studying for a degree at the Royal Conserva- tory of Music of Toronto on'a W.M.S. scholarship, was intro- duced by Mrs. H. Smith. She de- lighted the audience with her rendition of Brahms' Rhapsody in G minor. Beethoven's Sonata in F Sharp Minor, and Percy Grainger's famous Londonderry Afr, in addition to several Jap- anese hymns. She also answered a number of questions about cus- toms and conditions of her na- tive land. Mrs. Ray Collett thanked Miss Kamakura, and Mrs. E. Watts of the Afternoon W.M.S. gave the devotional. Mrs. G. DeCour- sey presented a report on the annual meeting of the Hamilton Conference branch held at Guelph. Members of the After- noon W.M.S. and the C.GIT. Were present as guests. Mrs, Norman McLeod, president of the Evening Auxiliary, presided. Dr. Marion Grant Guest OF Honor The University Women's Club is holding a fea at Oakville, Navy Street on Saturday, May 13th, Guest of honour will be Dr. Marion Grant, president of the Canadian Federation of Un- | lversity Women's Club. Dr. Grant is a graduate of Acadia and Toronto Universities having obtained her M.A. and Dr. of Paed.' from the latter. She is at present Dean of Women and As- soclate Professor of Psychology at Acadia. The May meeting of the Un- iversity Women's Club will be held May 17 at Victoria Hall when the speaker will be Mr. John Clarke of the Dept. of Ag- riculture, the subje "Contin- uous Bloom in the Garden." The meeting will be an open one and a large attendance Is expected. In the absence f Mrs, Shipley, Mrs. G. Cairns read a paper on the Devaluation of the Pound following which the regent Mrs. Smith gave her report of the Provincial Conven- tion. Mrs. Smith place particu- lar stress on the address by Mrs. Byrne Hope Saunders who urged that if the women of Canada would switch 15 percent of their purchases to British made goods 90 percent of the present United Kingdom -dollar shortage could be overcome. Mrs, Frank Smith reported that in co-operation with the Argela Bruce Chapter a graduating party had been given for new Canadians and that it was planned to hold a dance for them in September. Mrs. W. M. Copeland reported that seven local veterans had been remembered at Faster and parcel of clothing and one of quilts were' ready for overseas shipment. The resignation of Mrs, Page Wadsworth as record- ing secretary was accepted with regret. Mrs. E. J. Anundsen was welcomed as a new member, It was announced that the next meeting on June 1 would take the form of a luncheon at the home of Mrs. H. C. Hindmarsh. Mrs, Soanes gave a lengthy report on the Fashion Fantasy which promises to be one of the highlights of the year. It will be held in the new high® school auditorium on Saturday after- noon and evenings June 10. Clothes both ancient and modern will be displayed in a novel man- ner with skits taking the part of the regular mannequins parade. Programme prizes will include a $50.00 outfit donated by a local firm and a hand-blocked lunch- con set donated by Mrs. Wilkes Hooey. The members pledged $49 to help purchase a film pro- jeotor for town organizations. The annual talent donation for Food For Britain fund was Maurice Lunau, conven- er of the marathon bridge re- ported proceeds of $124. 'Miss Marion McNaughton, regent, presented the bridge prizes, do- nated by members. Home & School Annual Meet The annual meeting of the Oakville-Trafalgar Home and School Association will be held in the high school music room on May 18 at 815 p.m. Election and installation of officers will be the main item of business, and will be followed by a panel discussion in which delegates who attended the recent H. and S. convention will take part, show will have two performan- ces on June 10 in the Oakville- Trafalgar high school auditor- ium, and will be produced by Mrs. Stewart Smith.
