Have I got some cat ching up to do. Three whole weeks since 1 was last in this highlight slot. I guess the best thing to do would be to start at the beginning--they tell me that it's the fashion these days. So here goes! . The big social event of the year is over with, and all there are left are memories of the 'greatest At Home Dance the high school has ever seen. Be- cause of exams, I was unable to attend, but from the news I have gleaned from different sources it was really a terrific affair. And, of course, the outstanding event of the whole evening was the crowning of Miss O.T.H.S.--and undoubtedly you all know who the lucky one was--Roselyn Kel ley. Believe me, a better choice couldn't have been made. Let's what's next on the agenda. Ah yes, cadet inspection. May 24, I believe, is the date for this great annual review of high school military strength. This year, they tell me, a bugle band will be lacking from. the parade as there has been an alarming shortage of buglers this year. So drums will be the only musical instrument in the inspection. I caught a glimpse of some high-jumpers in practice be- hind the school last week, so I imagine that the prospective track men have started to get in shape for the spring meets. There will be the high school, Halton-Went- worth, and COSSA meets this year. The boys to keep your eyes on this spring will be Pete Sutton, as usual, Bob Heilig, Bill Smythe and Francis Smith. One of last vear's track men Johnny Ross, now at Michigan University, has been doing all right for himself this year as far as records go. Congratulations, Johnny. Word has it from Victoria that another of last year's grads, Bill Hall, now at Royal Roads, passed his first year exams and will be taking a six months' training cruise to Hawaii this summer. And so to you, Bill, go congratulations also. Bill Stewart and Bruce Merklinger are now In Trenton with the Air Force branch of the Air Force branch of the COTC for the next few months. Ryerson is now being over- shadowed with exams, so I im- agine we'll only have time for one more column before we finish school and leave for parts un- known for the summer. PIE When she completes her role in "Rain, Rain, Go Away", Nancy Davis goes to visit her parents in Arizona, then on to Mexico for a month's stay. POPP Brooklyn-born Marvin Kaplan, who became an overnight comedy sensation in Hollywood in "The Reformer and the Redhead", wins another comedy role, this time in "Angels and the Pirates", with Paul Douglas and Jones Leigh. Actor-Wife Team Co-Authoring Modern Ballet Gene Nelson, whose dancin feet have shot him up to stardom practically overnight, is about to direct the dancing feet of others. So the star revealed on the set of Warner Bros' currently film- ing Technicolor musical, "Paint- ing The Clouds With Sunshine." In association with his wife, Miriam Franklin Nelson, is doing the scenario for a ballet which he's calling "New York, Sunday Afternoon." Story will follow a boy-and-girl romance on a Man- hattan sabbath visiting Rockefel- ler Center, Fifth Avenue, Central Park, the Zoo, the Battery and other Gotham landmarks. "Actually the story is- Miriam's and my story -- during our court- ship when we had little money but all of New York to keep us company", Nelson said. "We spent many a Sunday afternoon such as the couple we tell about in the ballet." As soon as the Nelsons complete the scenario, they'll seek the es of an unknown composer to write the music for it. Then the plan is to submit the choreo- graphy to either Ballet Russe or Ballet Theatre, since both dance troupes are seeking ballets with American themes by new design: ers.
