FALLS ON DOG DAYS, CHIEF NOTES Dogs making themselves have created a con- siderable problem in the town- ship, Chief, Constable Fred Oliv- er informed Trafalgar township council Monday afternoon. Resi- dents, he said, were complainin that dogs scratched up their gar- dens, chased their children, and bit delivery men. "We have a thousand licensed dogs in. the township," said the chief, "and how many unlicensed ones I don't know. I'd appreciate it if you could do something about it. This dog situation is serious." Chief Oliver explained that the Oakville and District Humane Society was rendering valuable assistance in coping with the dog problem, and that it was only fair that the Society should be given a grant. If this were forthcoming, the Society would be willing to pick up stray dogs and take them to the pound, re- Jeasing them to their owners up- on the payment of the pound fee. Council agreed to let the chief work with the Humane Society's superintendent for a week or so in order to determine how large a grant would be necessary. ARE. Ap- proval of the project was sought. by Chairman Kenneth aGiles, of Trafalgar public school area board, who appeared before Tra- falgar township council Monday afternoon with a plan of the building. Council will apply to the Ontario Municipal Board for permission to issue the necessary debentures to finance the pro- ject. Bstimated cost of the proposed school, according to Mr. Giles, is $210,000. The building will be of plain, modern design of brick construction, one. storey in height, with seven class-rooms, and an auditorium 40 by 50 feet. Architects are Murton and Evans of Hamilton. The Department of Education had assured the board that there would be no difficulty in obtaining the necessary steel, Mi. Giles told the council. As soon as the architects have com- pleted their specifications, ten- ders will be called for. The site for the new school comprises 7 and four tenths ac- res. Of this, all but one acre was donated to the hoard. Mr. Giles did not feel at liberty to disclose the name of the donor, however. The remaining acre cost the board $500. The property is lo- cated partly on the Kent survey, adjoining land owned by John F. Tsard "I feel we have a very cheap school site, and one of the nicest youll find anywhere," said Mr. Giles. He pointed out that the town reservoir was close to the site, and that the school was as- sured an abundant supply of wa- ter. The board had been work: ing on the project for three months, he stated. He pointed out that 42 percent of the cost of furnishings and equipment would be contributed by the province. "I feel that we are placing the school directly in the hub of a wheel, where the population is heaviest" the chairman stated. It would take care of the area be- tween the Sixth and Seventh lines.
