TEEN TOWN By Don Lovegrove The resounding. echo of " ebel" still lingers in our e: it no doubt does in the ears of thousands of others who were lucky enough to get to one of Frankie Laine's public apear- ances last week. "Mr. Rhythm' really packed them in at both the Dundas Arena and the Mutual Street Arena in Toronto. Thousands of Laine fans screamed with delight as Frankie swung into "That's My Desire" to introduce his one hour show, "Black and Blue," "Shine," "Lucky Old Sun," "Cry of the wild Goose" "Swamp Girl," "We'll Be Together Again" "I May Be Wrong," and many oth- ers received the Laine treatment as the night passed too quickly on its way. To watch this singer is a sight to behold. Often chided and made fun of because of his stance be- fore the microphone, Frankie soon cleared that point for us as he worked to put over his songs. Warbling the high notes, he eas- ed back, arms outstretched, using every ounce of exertion he could muster. On the low sweet notes he leaned toward the audience and smiled down on the girls in the front row, making them scream with delight. ~~ A real showman So we add another autograph to our collection in the scrap book and another record to our albums. The record--you guessed i ebel" backed by that new hit, "Rose, Rose, I Love You." (Time out while I seratch a mosquito bite.) Now, where was I? Teen Town. on Teen Town. Well, after last Friday evening it is a wonder I have a column at all. Bgads! How dead can a place get? We grant you that quite a few of our loyal members were in Tor. onto seeing Frankie Laine. It would be a little erratic however, to say that all of them were there. Oh well! The only news we can scrape up this week has to do with the big dance being planned at the end of June. know will mark the end of Teen Town as an active organization Details of the dance are not all cleared up, but by: next week we will have the statistics for you. You can rest assured that it will be a big affair in all ways, with the council going all out to pro- vide top entertainment. We're still plugging for it to be held at the Arena, although it appears that is going to take some doing. But, as T said before, there will be more. on that next week. Dave Lee, mustache and all, was home on leave last week-end much to the pleasure of one Anna Wif- fen. Anna was caught right in the middle of studies for her examina- tions, we are told. If we remem- ber correctly, studies always come first. Ts that right, Anna? : DONE ITS DUTY My family tree 1 leave it be It's quite enough That it sprouted me. SEE YOU FRIDAY! (Please) This dance as you may |} SHELTER NEWS homes this week include a small male of questionable origin, and three male part German Sheph- erds. These pups are all at the stage where they can eat out of a dish, and are ready to train. House pets are numerous and include a black cocker male, a black and white heinz male, and a small bull terrier male that would make a nice watchdog. We have two Collie males that should be given homes in the country. These are both about a year old and in good shape. Cats _ include a gray striped male just under a year and an- other about 8 months old. Kittens include 2 males and 1 female-- part persian and only eight weeks old. TOMMY SMITH VICTOR IN FIRST JITNEY PLAY Tommy Smith took first hon- ors in Oakville Bowling Club's first mixed jitney tournament of the season last week, when a good attendance made it possible for four greens to play. George Finnegan, a visitor from Niagara Falls, ran a close second. In the ladies' section, Mrs. Bd Heldman and Mrs. Ray Mathews were fir and second. On Thursday eve- ning, bowlers from Milton, Port Credit and Streetsville competed with local bowlers in the Round Robins series. Oakville had a small margin over the visitors on every play. This was the first of a series, and final results are de- termined at the end of the season. Several Oakville bowlers visited Port Credit on Friday to compete in the first mixed doubles of the season, and brought home no less than seven prizes.
