DROP IN TO-DAY Last Wednesday the Squadron ginning Jim and Nancy Bai took the lead, followed closely by Art and Sadie Hills, who were in turn trailed Al Masson and yours truly. This order was main- tained all the way around the long triangular course. Saturday afternoon was sunny, with gentle swells (you know, the kind that give that whoopsy feeling) on the lake. But the wind, which was light, was boun- cing all over the place. As Doug Armour remarked: "This will be anybody's race." Everyone roared down on the starting line only to stop almost becalmed before they even got over the line. From then on the two races were strictly in slow motion. One Snipe would get a Puff of wind while the others were just drifting. It was more of an endurance test than a s boat race. But as the boats drift- ed gently along side-by-side, it was a good fime to catch up on the local news or even start a bridge game. The result of the first race, or kifging contest, was that Art Hills nosed out Doug Armour by a literal whisker. Frank and Mol- lie Baillie who had been 5th or 6th most of the way around sud- denly found a breeze from no- where and finished third. The second race was the lad- ies race with the gentler sex at the tiller. This race proved to be solely a race between Nancy Bail lie and Lib Armour with their better halves as their crew. Nan- cy led all the way around the course until just after the round- ing of the second buoy. Then from out of the blue Lib found a Stray unemployed breeze and promptly employed it to come home a good first. Ann Pearson was third. Just as that second race was finishing, the first boats of the Port Credit Yacht club crossed their finishing line at Oakville. They had raced up here from their home port in their annual race. All types of sailing craft took part from their little 14 ft. P.C. knockabouts to a 35 ft. Maple Leaf class cruiser. Port Credit Y.C. were to be the guests of the Oakville Yacht Squadron for the weekend, then planned to sail home on Monday after racing all day Sunday against Oakville for the B.A. tro- phy. Port Credit had sailed up two Buffalo Knockabouts which take of three to race; four a crew (Continued on Page 7) FOR... ALL YOUR LUMBER NEEDS --SEE-- CHAS. F.
