Town staff said that af- ter two years of celebra- tions being held virtually, residents are invited to mark Canada's birthday with a family-friendly eve- ning of fun activities, enter- tainment, food trucks and fireworks. The fun starts at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park at 6 p.m. The event will feature stilt walkers, arts and crafts, sports activities and giant-sized board games like checkers, chess and Jenga. Town staff said there will also be culturally en- riched activities run by lo- cal performing and cre- ative groups, a designated area for residents to take a moment and reflect on what it means to be Canadi- an and performances by Sing Along Tim & the Paci- fiers, Balletomane Dance School and Oakville-born and raised band The Lone- ly Hearts. At 8 p.m., a bag piper and drummer will wel- come dignitaries and Sher- idan College's Indigenous engagement director, Eli- jah M. Williams, will deliv- er the land acknowledge- ment, followed by the na- tional anthem, performed by Taylor Arbeau and ac- companied by Ray Tiberia. The fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m., weath- er permitting. Said Mayor Rob Burton, "We continue to make great strides in working together to support an inclusive, di- verse and equitable com- munity, and I look forward to coming together to cele- brate our nation's holiday. I also encourage residents to take a moment to reflect on what it means to be Canadi- an and how each of us can contribute to a community where everyone feels a sense of belonging." Town staff said attend- ees are encouraged to take the pay-one-way Oakville Transit shuttle to and from Bronte GO Station (every- one under the age of 12 rides free). Shuttle service begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs every 10 minutes. The last shuttle to the park leaves Bronte GO Sta- tion at 9:30 p.m. Return shuttle service to Bronte GO Station will begin once the fireworks display has ended. Road closures will be in effect, and there is no event parking available on-site. For more information, visit www.oakville.ca/ events/canada-day.html.
