Parents and guardians can book a COVID-19 vacci- nation appointment for children aged six months to under five years through the region's online booking system at halton.ca/vac- cine. Appointments are avail- able starting Thursday at the following pediatric clinics. According to the region, children between the age of six months and five years will get the lower dose pedi- atric Moderna COVID-19 vaccine that has been ap- proved by Health Canada. They will receive two doses at a recommended eight weeks apart. "The availability of a COVID-19 vaccine for Hal- ton's youngest residents is exciting news for Halton families," said Dr. Hamidah Meghani, Halton Region's Medical Officer of Health in a news release. "The low- er dose pediatric Moderna vaccine has been through rigorous scientific reviews and is the safest way to gain protection from COVID-19 and its variants. I strongly recommend vaccinating young children to protect them and their families." Immunocompromised youth aged 12 to 17 can also book their second booster dose (fifth dose) if at least six months have passed since their first booster (fourth dose).
