2. Rats are abundant.
3. Bites by mosquitoes are not confined to sleeping hours under UNRRA nets.
Insect repellent, therefore, is required in large quantities for daily application. To date each person has been supplied with only 4 oz.
Other hazards include trachoma, skin lesions, etc. Beggars with trachoma have been seen plucking at the hands and clothing of workers. One woman with impetigo on her face rubbed her sores on this medical officer's skirt in an effort to attract attention.
F. If, for lack of preventive measures, UNRRA staff became ill and there were a lack of treatment facilities, UNRRA would indefensibly be exposed to criticism and expense.
Many of these supplies were requested months ago by person and by telegram (request by this medical officer in person to Dr.Sacks, Feb. '46, by Mr.Hawkins and Mr.Platt in April '46, by telegram UNCSCO 080023 dated 8 May '46 and UNCSCO 040051 dated 4 June '46).
Their immediate dispatch is again requested. Please reply on action taken.
