II. Field Trip
A. Field trip to Yoyang was undertaken as part of routine health survey of province.
B. Yoyang Reformed Mission Hospital. This hospital now has 30 beds. When present repairs are finished and when the Chinese Military Police move out of the dispensary it will be possible to have 60 beds. At present there is but one doctor. Efforts are being made to find another.
Increase in typhoid and dysentery has been noted. No cholera or typhus. Meningitis improved. A few cases of relapsing fever.
C. Yoyang Hsien Health Station. The health station plans to advertise the importance of anti-cholera injections. Supply of vaccine has been received. Yoyang is said to have a high cholera incidence yearly.
D. Health Conditions Yoyang. The filth and squalor of this town exceeds anything yet seen in Hunan by this medical officer. Until the last week many Japanese soldiers were living there which may account partly for the low morale of the people.
The general health seemed fair only. Moderate pallor, no marked emaciation. The usual eye diseases, trachoma, xerophthalmia, etc., but skin diseases not outstanding comparatively.
E. Health Conditions Country People.
Changsha and Yoyang.
Trip north was by jeep but as road became impassable because of rain, return trip was by train. Railroad and road run through different country and more of Changsha and Yoyang Hsiens was therefore seen than by one route.
1. Changsha Hsien: In general health was fairly good.
a. Yoyang Hsien: Rather poor. Pallor fairly marked. - Date of Original
