Description
A newspaper article by Shannon Quesnel written for the Standard on May 17, 2006 about the great Mississagi Fire in 1948.

ThE article recounts the fire from the perspective of Gord Campbell who answered an ad to fight fires in Northern Ontario. Smoke from the fire covered an area as far south as Texas and was so bad that street lights came on in a Texas town mid-day.

Mr. Campbell talks of the lack of protective clothing that fire fighters take for granted now and the lack of equipment. He tells tales of fire fighters jumping into lakes just to survive when the inferno got too close and too hot.
