Notes
This cash register is a family heirloom, belonging to the donor's father, Norman Solomon and grandfather, Albert Solomon.

Mr. Albert Solomon started Solomon's Store, a department store which was opposite the Palace Theatre on Hanes Avenue in Blind River, Ontario Canada.

Built in 1928, The Palace Royale, the Palace Theatre (so-named later) replaced the old silent movie house called the Star Theatre.

Boasting ornate plaster wall decorations, rich red velvet curtains hung across the stage and gilded chandeliers, it was a touch of the "finer life" for patrons of the day. Besides projecting films of the day, its front row orchestra pit allowed it to serve as a fine arts hall hosting three-act plays, hypnotists, boxers and musical bands.

With a seating capacity of 300, it was the first building in town to have public washrooms as well as the longest family-run business -- through three generations.

After 72 years of operation, the Palace Theatre was torn down in 2000 to be replaced by the Algoma Social Services building on Hanes Avenue.
