Description
Edward W. Colley purchased the property at 158 Church St. in 1864. The original house on this property was built in 1870 by the Colley family. Colley owned a tinsmith business in St. Marys. On February 2, 1876, Colley passed away, leaving behind his wife, Elizabeth Colley, and their three children Herbert, Ada and Jessie. Elizabeth ran a boarding house out of the property for several years afterwards. Jessie Colley, a daughter of Edward and Elizabeth, eventually married James L. Webster, a well-known local photographer. The couple lived in the house with the rest of the family.

Between the years of 1909 and 1915, a number of additions were made to the house. Clarence Colley, the son of Herbert Colley, eventually sold the home in 1936 to Norman W. Greason.

Note the intricate ginger breading commonly used on wood houses at the time this house was built. The house has a grand, long porch that wraps around the side of the building and a beautifully detailed overhang over the doorway. The house has been painted a lighter colour since this photo was taken.
